Guess what, you don’t have to throw away your favorite shirt because you got a paint stain on it.
The first thing you want to know is the type of paint you’re dealing with. If it’s a water-based paint or an oil-based paint. If you’re unsure what type of paint you’re using, check the label on the can. Water-based paint is a lot easier to remove from clothing compared to oil-based paint.
How To Remove Water-Based Paint
Step 1: Scrape off as much excess paint as you can with a spoon or dull knife.
Step 2: Flush the backside of the stain with with warm running water.
Step 3: Wet the stain with a mix of 1/2 detergent, 1/2 warm water and blot it with a rag.
Step 4: Apply a stain remover and wash the clothing at the appropriate setting according to the manufacturer.
How To Remove Oil-Based Paint
Step 1: Turn the garment inside-out, place it on a few towels and apply paint thinner to the stain.
Step 2: Rinse it out.
Step 3: Apply dishwasher detergent to the stain and let it sit overnight.
Step 4: At least 12 hours later, wash the garment as you normally would.
