Reasons To Paint A Door Black

Painting doors is one of our favorite things to do.

They add…

We’re writing this article because painting a door black (or any color at that) is not as simple as applying a few strokes of Valspar paint and calling it a day.

There are a few other steps you need to take.

If you’re not 100% sold on why you should choose a black door, this post is also for you because we’re actually going to first share our favorite reasons for painting your door black.

By the end, you’ll know for certain if it’s right for you and if you’re really bold enough to do it (just kidding)!

Elegant

Black and white is a color combination that signifies elegance and class. They’re an instant statement maker and can surprise the unexpeting eye of a visitor.

Complements Black Accents

Black doors are ideal for drawing attention to black accents around a room like trim, appliances, and even artwork.

Rooms that have little contrast can feel too spaced out or like they lack cohesion. Suddenly everything just seems to get lost within the room.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Did you know that black doors actually draw your line of sight upwards making ceilings appear taller than they actually are?

Colors can both say a lot about someone’s personality and determine how we view a space.

Easier To Keep Clean

Fingerprints and dust marks don’t show up on black doors. They’re still there, of course, but you just can’t see them. If you have kids, this can mean one less thing you have to add to the weekly (kid maintenance) list.

Contrast

At Hillis Brothers Painting we do our fair share of cabinet painting. The most common color we use is without a doubt white. People opt to get rid of the 80’s style oak-colored cabinets for something more modern.

Painting your door black can provide the perfect contrast to white cabinets, granite countertops, and compliment black or gray appliances.

Increase Curb Appeal

Black doors are currently in style so if you’re selling your home, you can get an easy bump in appraisal just by painting your doors black. Ask almost any real estate agent and they’ll tell you that for the most part, black doors are in!

What Is The Best Paint For Black Interior Doors?

We recommend using paint with a high gloss or semi-gloss finish.

We all know that darker colors reflect sunlight. This means that a black door will reflect sunlight making a room brighter and more inviting.

A good second option is a natural matte if you want a more humble and toned-down look.
